Ghibli Park was founded in 2022 and runs on reservations only. Every ticket is booked ahead for a set date, and daily numbers are capped at around 5,000 visitors. The park is not one enclosed site but a set of separate areas: Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, Hill of Youth, Dondoko Forest, Mononoke Village and Witch’s Valley. Which areas you can enter depends on the ticket you buy, so choose the ticket before you choose the day.
The park itself recommends coming to Hill of Youth and Dondoko Forest in the morning or early afternoon, because both get very crowded towards closing time. Opening is later on weekdays than at weekends, which is worth knowing when you plan the start of the day.
There is no dedicated Ghibli Park parking, so plan on the Linimo line. Food and shops are at Rotunda Kazegaoka on the north entrance plaza.
The trade-off is that the date is locked. Tickets cannot be refunded or moved once bought, and in bad weather some outdoor attractions may not run: Okkotonushi in Mononoke Village, the back-hill trail in Dondoko Forest, and the Merry-go-round and Flying Machine in Witch’s Valley. A rainy booked day is still your day.
