Founded in 1960, Nandankanan Zoological Park is a zoo where much of the day is built from add-ons: safaris through the lion, white tiger, bear and herbivore areas, battery-operated vehicles, paddle and family boats, a ropeway, and a toy train that runs every half hour with a lunchtime pause. Toy train seats go first come, first served, with up to 50 people per trip. Keepers give token feedings with live commentary about the animals, though the schedules can change. The thing to plan around is what you carry: food items, polythene and baggage are not allowed into the park, and the free cloakroom takes a single packet or bag, so pack light and bring only what fits in one.
