The Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts was founded in 1880 and is Chile’s national museum of art. It is housed in an Art Nouveau building designed by Emile Jéquier, listed as a Historical Monument of Chile, a short distance from the centre of Santiago. Entry is free for everyone and there is nothing to reserve, which makes it easy to fit in on a day in the city and leave when the children have had enough; lockers mean bags do not have to be carried round the galleries. The one thing to know if anyone in your group depends on a lift: the single elevator for wheelchair users and visitors with reduced mobility, reached through a side door on Ismael Valdés Vergara street, is listed as temporarily suspended. There is an accessible toilet on the first floor.
