Getting there

The Lisbon Oceanarium is a public aquarium designed by Peter Chermayeff and open to the public since 1998. The visit follows a single route, and ramps and lifts run the whole way, so a stroller can stay with you instead of being parked at the door. Pregnant visitors and adults carrying a baby get priority service.

The price depends on what time you enter, and later slots cost less, so the time you choose affects the price as well as the day. You can buy tickets at the desk on the day, subject to availability.

The trade-off is food. You can’t eat on the visit route or bring food onto it, and there is no dedicated area for feeding or breastfeeding babies. Plan snacks and bottles around the restaurant and café on the ground floor, which has a children’s menu, rather than halfway round the tanks.

Photos are allowed, but not with flash, other artificial light or selfie sticks.
