Toronto Zoo was founded in 1974 and is reachable by TTC, GO Transit or other public transport. Ticket prices change with the date you visit, and buying more than three days ahead saves 5%.
The ground shapes the day more than anything else. The site has steep grades, and some of the gentler slopes do not meet current accessibility standards; the Canadian Domain in particular is reached by a steep hill that the zoo does not recommend for wheelchairs or electric scooters. All pavilions are wheelchair accessible, with that hill as the main exception, and wheelchairs can be borrowed free against a refundable deposit. Sensory bags are available from the Accessibility Hub just inside the front entrance.
Food is flexible: bring your own picnic lunch, or use the zoo’s restaurants, whose hours and locations depend on the weather. A lifestyle-friendly menu guide lists gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options. The First Aid & Family Centre, between the African Rainforest Pavilion and Africa restaurant, has baby changing, a place to feed and privacy for nursing, as well as first aid with private treatment areas. Lockers are at the front entrance.
