Plitvice Lakes was established as a Croatian national park in 1949 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has several entrances, and tickets bought in the park’s online shop are for a chosen date, time and entrance, so decide where you are coming in before you pay. Tickets can also be bought on the spot if any are left, though buying on site can take longer, especially in high season.
The season changes how much of the park you can walk. In winter usually only the Lower Lakes are open; the Upper Lakes reopen when the weather allows, most often at the start of April.
