Frankfurt Zoological Garden is built around its animal houses: for many species you can also visit the animals in their indoor enclosures, which keeps the zoo workable in poor weather. Children can get close at the petting zoo, which is barrier-free, and watch penguins and seals underwater at the Robbenklippen. Public feedings are usually held every day, though they can be dropped for animal-management reasons; the seals and penguins at the Robbenklippen are normally fed at 11:00.

With a buggy, the zoo is largely barrier-free rather than completely so. Paths are partly natural and not level everywhere, and the upper floor of the Exotarium, a building more than 100 years old, has no step-free access; in the Borgori-Wald ape house, a lift takes you to the upper floor. Accessible toilets are in the Zoogesellschaftshaus just behind the entrance and in Borgori-Wald, and wheelchairs can be borrowed at the entrance against a deposit.

The ticket desks on Alfred-Brehm-Platz take cash, EC cards, Mastercard and VISA. Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the zoo; guide and assistance dogs are admitted with proof.
