Vadstena Castle offers two ways in. An entry ticket lets you go round the castle on your own, at whatever pace a child sets, stopping in the rooms that hold them and moving on from the ones that do not. The guided options are separate tickets: a renaissance tour, a tour about the castle’s defences and a themed tour, plus dramatised walks that put characters back into the rooms — Hertig Magnus, Makt & Kärlek and the evening Nattvandring — with a price set for two adults and two children together. Younger visitors have a version of their own, the barnvandringar, guided walks for ages five to ten. The trade-off is that they run in a narrow window, from the start of July to early August, and not on the days of the medieval festival, so if the children’s walk matters to you it will choose your dates. The castle’s own opening is described as limited to the summer half of the year, while guided activities are listed as running all year.
